Don't Be a "Wishcycler" - Recycle Responsibly!

Did you know that putting the wrong materials in your recycling cart causes the whole load to be rejected? Orange County officials say 85% of all recyclables in the unincorporated county are actually being sent to the landfill.

Let's change the statistic! Remember the "Think5" strategy that focuses on the top five recyclable items:

PLASTIC

Bottles and containers labeled #1 - #5

METAL

Tin, aluminum, steel, and empty aerosol cans

GLASS

Bottles and jars

CARDBOARD

Flattened corrugated boxes

PAPER

Newspapers and advertisements

Paper bags

Junk mail

Magazines and catalogs

Office/note paper

Phone books

Cereal/shoe/drink boxes

Milk/juice cartons

When in doubt, leave it out!

Plastic bags are the biggest culprit when it comes to contaminating a recycling load. DO NOT BAG RECYCLABLES.

Plastic bags are not recyclable in your recycling cart, but you can take them to any Horizon West Publix location where you will find collection bins outside the store. These bins accept plastic film (also known as plastic film packaging) which is soft, flexible polyethylene (PE) packaging such as grocery, bread, zip-top and dry cleaning bags. It’s also the wrap around many products including paper plates, napkins, bathroom tissue, diapers, and more.

Visit the American Chemistry Council’s Plastic Film Recycling page to find a bag drop-off location near you.

Household Hazardous & Electronic Waste

Help protect the environment and our health. Don't dispose of dangerous household chemicals in your garbage, down storm drains, into sinks, or by burying them.

Electronic equipment can be recycled. An item is considered electronic waste if it contains a circuit board.
