Honored to be recognized with a Communicator Award of Distinction and with a Charlie Award by the Florida Magazine Association.
Horizon West Theater Company's opening night performance of "RENT" was a remarkable portrayal of the iconic musical that tells the story of a group of friends living in New York City's East Village during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The cast exuded love in every note, delivering excellent vocals that perfectly captured the essence of the characters. You can still catch this stellar cast in action on Saturday and Sunday (Oct 14-15, 2023) - it's this one weekend only, so get your tickets now at HorizonWestTheaterCompany.com/Rent
Congratulations are in order for this phenomenal cast and production team, who have brought to life a story that conveys the profound truth that people are here in this world to share experiences with one another. "RENT" reminds us that love can lift you up through challenging times and is all about the support and impact those around you have on your life. It highlights the idea that family is not limited to blood but is defined by those we lean into and share love with. This powerful message is beautifully articulated in the performances.
Mark, played by long-time HWTC actor Caleb Graham says, ““RENT" itself is a celebration of life, love, emotion, and humanity”, and the Horizon West Theater Company successfully captured its essence. They hope that by bringing you their heartfelt performances, you'll be inspired to immerse yourself in your own community and find the connection we as humans all need at our core. Theater, music, art and volunteering all have a brilliant way of bringing people together.
The energy emitting from all of the characters is palpable, with love and emotion in every word that emerged from the stage. Special kudos to Gabe Vazquez, the fearless and fantastic understudy for "Angel," who is stepping into the spotlight for all three performances this weekend, adding a unique touch to the already electric performances.
The location of this performance is another example of challenges being overcome. While Horizon West is still in the process of expansion, HWTC often needs to be creative in finding venues that are available and work within their production budget. For "RENT," the show found a home nearby, outside of Horizon West, in the beautiful theater at Lakeview Middle School in the downtown city limits of Winter Garden. Originally built in 1927, this technologically state-of-the-art performing arts center opened in 2002, offering a welcoming backdrop to the musical's themes.
As a 501c3 non-profit Community Theater group celebrating 5 years, Horizon West Theater Company has made significant contributions to the local arts scene. Their mission to inspire performing artists and volunteers, create quality theatrical productions, and connect the community through educational experiences has resonated with audiences.
And that's not all they have in store. Their youth theater is performing "Willy Wonka, Jr" on December 8th and 9th, offering an exciting opportunity for young talents to shine. Keep an eye out for tickets and future shows your children can participate in at HorizonWestTheatercompany.com/Classes
In addition, from the stage on opening night of "RENT," Director Holly Robertson announced that their spring musical will be Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella," scheduled for March 14-17, 2024. Auditions are set for December 1st and 2nd in Horizon West, with details available online at HorizonWestTheaterCompany.com/Auditions. It's a chance for everyone to be part of the magic in their next production!
Horizon West Theater Company, in its dedication to the performing arts and community engagement, continues to be a vital source of artistic expression and a platform for local talent to shine. With their commitment to nurturing young performers and putting on stellar productions that include world-class entertainers who call the Disney World area home to those that have just always longed to perform, they are a beacon of creativity and connection in the Horizon West community.
