“I believe knowledge is power. It is also the foundation for intelligent well-considered decisions.” – Andy Ortiz
Today's economic environment brings challenges. But along with challenges come opportunities and potential rewards. Andy Ortiz, owner of IQ Portfolios, a State Registered Investment Adviser Firm works closely with his clients to evaluate those opportunities and get you in position to reap those rewards. Here are some of the key points he encourages you to consider during these exceedingly difficult times when it comes to personal and family finances.
Cybersecurity:
First and foremost, protecting how you access sensitive financial information over the internet is more important than ever. Installing and/or upgrading antivirus software along with setting up two-factor authentication when possible is a great start.
Review/Create a Budget:
This will help you to manage the new conditions imposed by COVID-19 and take advantage of lower interest rates that provide the opportunity to refinance a mortgage and even consolidate other outstanding debt.
Boost Your Emergency Fund:
If you are lucky enough to be able to continue working from home, then consider boosting your emergency fund. After all, your opportunities for “impulse spending” are now limited. Stash money you would otherwise be spending eating out and traveling to help weather any storms that could come your way in the future. Consider deleting your Amazon App for a while!
Continue Regular Investments Towards Your Financial Goals:
The fact that stock markets fluctuate is awesome for long-term investors as the opportunities to dollar-cost average at extremely discounted prices do not present themselves too often.
Keep Calm and Carry On:
No one likes to see the value of their investments decrease. But we know that ups and downs are a normal part of the investment cycle, even if recent market history suggests otherwise. Always consult a financial professional when in doubt.
Choosing to build financial stability in times where much of what we assumed “certain” is now uncertain might seem counter-intuitive, but there really is no better time to start than now. Below Andy answers some common questions that he has encountered during these chaotic times.
How can a financial planner help?
There is so much freedom in financial stability. It’s something everyone deserves and helping people achieve that level of confidence is why I do what I do. So many people that have come to me feel that for the very first time that they can actually say, "I trust you," this is exactly what financial and investment planning is all about. I am honored to be able to help my friends, my neighbors and my community navigate their finances in a way that they can use their money to serve them and the goals they are aiming towards.
I’m really afraid of the future. Where do I start?
For me this has always been, and will always be, about helping people experience the pride and freedom that financial stability brings. I would encourage everyone to start by imagining what financial freedom and stability means to them. We will come up with a plan together to help you get there. All of my energy, commitment, and efforts are focused on you, the client, and your satisfaction.
There is so much transformation in someone's life when they get their finances in order that-- for me-- it's a feeling like "Yesss!!” It is an amazing feeling to know I had the privilege of helping others get there. I believe in thinking “out of the box” and I am not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom in my approach to investing and managing wealth.
What if it’s too late to start financial planning?
The answer is two-fold. One side of the coin logically says, “the sooner the better.” However, the other side of that is the reality that many people didn’t have the opportunity to start planning early and this may make us feel like it’s “too late.”
I’m here to tell you that ANYTIME is the right time! It does not matter where you are on the path; I am here to meet you exactly where you are and work with you towards your success.
