Honored to be recognized with a Communicator Award of Distinction and with a Charlie Award by the Florida Magazine Association.
Dr. Angela Murphy-Osborne is eagerly counting down the days until the brand new Hamlin Elementary School opens its doors to students! As the very first principal of the new school, Dr. O — as her staff affectionately calls her — says she's honored to be in the role and is very excited about the coming school year. She "can't wait to see the kids!"
Dr. Osborne brings a wealth of experience to Hamlin Elementary. She's been an administrator in OCPS since 1997, and she is not new to Horizon West. Many residents will recognize Dr. Osborne as the principal who opened Independence Elementary School (IES) and continued to serve as the principal there for the past seven years. IES families have likely seen her personally greeting students with an enthusiastic welcome at daily drop-off!
She has been honored with many accolades including being named OCPS Principal of the Year twice and was also awarded the Florida Department of Education’s Principal of the Year in 2015 after remarkably raising the grade of an elementary school from F to A in a single year!
For Hamlin Elementary School's inaugural year, Dr. Osborne says she's focused on looking at the whole child to ensure they are happy, comfortable and successful. To assist her young students' with transition to a new school, she plans to adopt familiar practices from their previous schools.
Dr. Osborne's love for what she does shines through as she speaks about spending time with the children by visiting them in class and in the cafeteria every single day! "It's a calling," she says, as she enthusiastically describes her love of her job in the video interview below.
We know the Hamlin Elementary community will extend a warm welcome to their new leader.
Hamlin Elementary is located at 16145 Silver Grove Blvd. It relieves Water Spring Elementary and Whispering Oak Elementary. The first day of school is August 10, 2022.
Best wishes to all Horizon West students for a great school year!
