Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) recently restructured its patrol sectors to allows more focused attention on communities on the west side of the county, including Horizon West, Dr. Phillips and the Sand Lake corridor. This restructuring involved increasing the number of patrol sectors from six to seven and designing the new sector areas such that the entirety of Horizon West now falls within the jurisdiction of a single patrol sector.
Under the previous structure, resources were often stretched thin. OCSO coverage for Horizon West was split across two very active sectors: Sectors 3, which extended far north and east of HW including the heavily populated Pine Hills community, and Sector 6, which covered a large swath that included both the Walt Disney World Resort and I-Drive tourist areas.
Our area has experienced explosive growth, leading to increased demand for effective and responsive policing. OCSO’s new patrolling strategy is a proactive measure created to adapt to the evolving needs of Horizon West. The new sector structure helps to ensure that the community's safety needs are met efficiently by enabling a more focused law enforcement presence in our area.
Under this strategic realignment, Horizon West benefits from a higher concentration of deputies who now have smaller geographic responsibilities. Deputies who previously patrolled as far as Pine Hills are now redeployed across the newly defined Sector 3.
One of the most immediate advantages of this change is the potential for quicker police response times. With deputies covering smaller areas, they can respond to incidents more swiftly. Additionally, the new patrolling strategy includes the creation of smaller zones within each sector, enabling more targeted policing efforts.
This approach allows the OCSO to address specific issues pertinent to smaller community segments more effectively, leading to enhanced crime prevention and a stronger sense of security among residents.
This restructuring effort directly impacts residents' lives. And by dedicating more resources and seeking to reduce response times, Orange County Sheriff's Office demonstrates its commitment to our safety and security.
The Horizon West community can look forward to continued improvements in community safety and are encouraged to engage with local law enforcement to keep building a safe and secure community for everyone.
